#Eightball by #danielclowes just got reprinted in a single volume! It's my favourite comic and I'm going to be re-reading it. It's a wild, vulgar, hilarious compilation of social commentary. While I re-read it I think I'll slowly post a thread here trying to shine some light on why it's so great. #altcomix #comics
Devil Doll (#Eightball #1, 1989) is just the most sarcastic and wonderful critique of Chick Tracts, the little comics people leave on busses to convert you to Christianity. An exploration into what the world might look like if Chick Tracts actually worked.
I Hate You Deeply, a comic in #Eightball #2 published 1989, has Daniel Clowes hating on mullets before there was even a word for Mullets (Coined by the Beastie Boys in 1994!). So great.
"The Stroll" (from #Eightball #3) - a comic where the narrator walks through town, silently swearing at people before finally arriving back home and hypocritically contemplating about how he feels a sense of humanitarian kinship with others. Hilariously dark.
One of my favourite aspects of #Eightball is that it's chock full of interesting cultural references (that were more obscure when they were written in the early 90s). Like this panel referencing the mugging of Dan Rather, published well before the R.E.M. song was released.
@espen no problem! Snap it up. I imagine it may sell out soon.
